Chocolate covered strawberries make the perfect dessert and even better gift for someone special! Whenever I walk into the name brand chocolate stores, I always see these priced outrageously high. Well, now there’s no need for that because I’m going to show you how I get mine to be so pretty 🙂
The key here is to use the double boiler method. You don’t need any fancy tools – just a pot of boiling water, a heatproof bowl and chocolate chips to melt. A double boiler is when you boil a pot of water and place a bowl on top, then reduce the heat to simmer. Now, when you add your chocolate it’ll gently heat to ensure silky smoothness.
Another big key to silky smooth chocolate is the type you use. Darker chocolate will melt more smoothly because it has less milk and more cocoa beans. You can certainly use milk chocolate, though, and the crushed nuts will hide any flaws in the coating.
I tend to use any nuts I have available when making these. You can use what suits your taste best. There are several options for crushing the nuts – you can use a mortar and pestle, put it into a ziplock back and crush it with a rolling pin, or use a food processor. It all works, so use what is easiest for you.
After coating the strawberries, place on parchment paper on a backing sheet. This will ensure it doesn’t stick to the pan. Take the chocolate covered strawberries out of the pan when the chocolate is firm, usually about 15 minutes.
These make the prettiest dessert or you can put it into a box and gift it to someone special! It’s the sweetest gift 🙂

Ingredients
- Whole strawberries
- Chocolate chips, or chocolate cut into small and even pieces
- Crushed pecans, walnuts, almonds, etc.
- Toothpick to help dip the strawberries (optional)
- Parchment paper
Instructions
- Bring a pot of water to a boil. Then, add a heatproof bowl on top and lower the heat to simmer.
- While that’s boiling, pat down the strawberries so it’s completely dry. This will help the chocolate cling to it easier.
- Add your chocolate chips and stir every so often until melted. Keep in mind that dark chocolate will melt smoother.
- Dip your strawberries by holding the stem or using a toothpick and roll it until it’s covered. Then, lightly scrape it on the side of the bowl to get the excess chocolate off.
- Immediately roll the strawberries in crushed nuts and place on parchment paper on a baking pan. When you’re done dipping the strawberries, place the pan into the freezer. Freeze until the chocolate is firm, usually about 15 minutes.
- You can store leftovers in the fridge. Enjoy!
